Welcome to two new PhD students, Parisa Ghods Ghasemabadi and Landon Hiscock. Parisa, who comes from Iran, will be working on inverse electron demand Diels-Alder chemistry, whereas Landon, who came through the undergraduate program at Memorial, will be working on the synthesis of aromatic belts and related nonplanar aromatic compounds.
Kiran and Kerry-Lynn presented posters at the recent Calixarene conference (Calix 12), which was hosted here in St. John’s by Paris Georghiou on July 14-17, 2013. Congratulations to Kiran for winning a poster prize.
Graham and Kiran recently returned from ISNA-15 in Taipei, Taiwan, on July 28 – August 2, 2013. Congratulations to Kiran for winning a poster prize.
The tenth annual Summer Organic Chemistry Conference on Everybody’s Research (SOCCER-X) was held on August 8-9, 2013. Our Hugh Anderson Memorial Lecturer was Dr. Robert Britton from SFU. Many thanks to Rob, who presented an outstanding lecture on the use of chlorohydrins in synthesis and immersed himself fully in every SOCCER event. Graham won the mini golf tournament (again) and the pool tournament too (again). Team Britton won the soccer game, extending Team Bodwell’s losing streak to at least 5 years. Congratulations to Kiran, Kaitlin and Tiff for winning prizes for their presentations.
See the events page for pictures from all of these conferences.
